UoA FSAE team requires a charger suitable to recharge their electric cars. The input to the charger is typically derived from single/three phase utility grid and is required to charge a 550 V 15 Ah battery pack within 3 hours. The charger should incorporate power factor correction (PFC) and electrical isolation between input and output for safety. It should also have control subsystem to manage the charging of the battery with failsafe mechanisms to avoid unsafe operating conditions.
The initial system specifications are,
- Supply voltage - 230 Vac single or three-phase derived from utility or a generator
- Power rating - 3.2 kW pulses
- Average efficiency
- Digital closed loop control with supervisory failsafe controllers
- Power factor correction (PFC)
Undergraduate
At the completion of the projects the students are expected to have,
- A functional single and three-phase PFC interface
- A functional 3.2 kW isolated DC-DC converter
- Control system with safety protection
- Both students applying MUST take EE734 and EE735
- Students interested MUST consult the supervisor and FSAE before applying
