Project #1: How to make used coffee ground to be better engineering materials for composite reinforcement?

Back

Description:

Coffee is one of the most popular drinks around the world. The production of used coffee ground when brewing coffee has been taken as granted and these materials have been injected directly into normal waste streams, such as land fill or sometimes for composting. It has hardly been looked at to see whether these grounds can actually be used as a filler or reinforcement for engineering plastics for mechanical or functional properties. In this project, used coffee ground will be processed to become a filler or reinforcement for thermoplastic composites manufacturing. The resulting materials will be characterised for their various mechanical, physical and/or functional properties to assess the effects of the content of used coffee ground with and without coffee oil.
