A study of the aerodynamics of ellipsoids and rugby balls using experimental wind tunnel testing and computational fluid dynamics modelling techniques.

Outcome:

1. Lift and drag characteristics over a range of Reynolds numbers and orientation, for a non-spinning ellipsoid / rugby ball.
2. Lift and drag characteristics over a range of Reynolds numbers, orientation and rotational speeds, for a spinning ellipsoid / rugby ball.
3.Flow visualization to aid understanding of the aerodynamic behaviour.

Mecheng325: A- or better
