Project #40: Robotic amputated limb for evaluating an osseointegrated prosthetic leg

Back

Description:

Background: Osseointegrated prosthetics are surgically attached directly to the bone in the residual limb to provide stronger more functional artificial limbs. However there are issues due to loading that cause loosening and hence infection.

Aim: Develop a robotic physical model of the human lower limb to test various characteristics of an osseointegrated prosthetic.

Objectives:

1.       Manufacture physical model of residual amputated limb

2.       Electronics and control system to take limb through standard walking motion

3.       Testing and experimental validation of the limb

This is a new project funded by the US Office of Naval Research (ONR).
