Project #54: Bitstream sensorless drives for BLDC and stepper motors

Back

Description:

This project will implement various classical techniques in sensors less BLDC motor control with an eventual aim to use bitstreams instead of C language based control. Sinusoidal drives have been developed for stepper motors but its performance in speed and position control has not been evaluated. In addition, torque ripple, rotor resonance and missed step detection has never been done.

The project will construct a rig that will mount various motors and rotary sensors to facilitate the required measurements. A PSoC or FPGA will be used to develop all aspects of this project. Initially motor control will be implemented in C and then progress to hardware implementation in VHDL/Verilog on the PSoC an/or FPGA. The outcomes of this project will directly assist two ongoing PhD projects.
