Project #72: Circuit sketching and electronic log book on Android tablet

Back

Description:

Sketching an electrical circuit on a piece of paper is usually faster and easier than using a circuit design tool on a computer. In this project we want to bring this ease to pen-based tablets under Android. Previously a software tool prototype was developed in the Parallel and Reconfigurable Computing (PARC) lab that recognizes typical components of electrical circuits when drawn by the user on the tablet. The tool connects the components into a circuit and does simple circuit analysis. The objective of this project is to use the circuit sketcher to turn a tablet into an electronic log book for computer and electrical engineers, with all the advantages of electronic note keeping, such as easy duplication, versioning, integration of other data, to name just a few. The development will be done as an Android app written in Java, with a focus on performance and parallel implementation.
