The Biomimetics Lab is developing small robots that operate without conventional electronics. One of them is a dragonfly robot that flaps its wings under the action of artificial muscles. The muscles are controlled through a soft artificial muscle oscillator. In its current form the oscillator and the dragonfly are separate structures. In this project the students will build the oscillator into the structure of the dragonfly. This will be an important step towards achieving a soft and ultimately printable micro-flying vehicle.
Undergraduate
1. Integrating control with artificial muscles;
2. Identifying strategies for printing key elements of the robot;
3. Producing a demonstrator for the concept micro-flyer.
