Back

Description:

The MPAi project has developed a language pronunciation aid which uses a variety of technologies, including speech recognition to provide feedback to users about their pronunciation of Maori. The current system work on a pc, and is designed for people who can speak Māori, and are wanting to improve their pronunciation. This project is about developing a sister product, it will be web-based, but also it will aimed at people wanting to learn basic Māori phrases and common words (e.g. Kia ora, whanau). It will involve setting up the speech recognition system on a server and developing a Restful API to interface between the server and a client. Two version of the on-line system will be developed: a plain web interface, and an application that will work on a smart device. The user interfaces of these two version is a very important aspect of this project, and userability studies will be completed as part of the project so interested candidates should have a strong interest in human computer interaction.
