Project #82: Fuels Research using the Ricardo Research Engine.

Back

Description:

The Ricardo E6 single cylinder spark ignition engine has been relocated from the city to Newmarket campus. In the process a new DC controller was installed. This project will investigate the performance of the new controller and review engine management system, data acquisition and calibration requirements.
The engine currently has a manual throttle control which requires adjustment within the test cell The project will also investigate options that will allow remote control of the throttle.
It is anticipated that investigatory work will be undertaken on ethanol/ petrol blends.

Three projects ran on the Ricardo in 2015.

An assessment of the stability of the control system over a range of operating conditions.
Design and implementation of a remote throttle actuator.
Information on the performance of the engine management system.
Information on the accuracy of key data acquisition system components eg the fuel measuring equipment
