Project #84: Sensor integration for a smart glove

Back

Description:

This project will extend StretchSense’s existing prototype glove (with 3rd generation electronics), currently equipped with stretch sensors, by adding accelerometers and other MEMS devices to enhance its ability to sense the movement of the user’s hand. To utilize this new information, an Arduino-based API will be developed to coordinate and process these sensors for the end-user. The target demographic of this glove is Makers looking for immersive, fully-fledged control.The stages are:
1. Becoming familiar with the pre-existing glove prototype and the range of MEMS devices available, then combining the two in a way that captures more degrees of freedom than the existing glove;
2. Developing a fully-fledged API to process the input from the glove and translate it to an easy-to-use representation for the sensors;
3. Producing a prototype for demonstration.

Type:

Undergraduate

Outcome:

1. Demonstration of sensor integration for improved glove performance
2. Building a prototype.
