Project #98: Contactless power supply for driving movable displays

Back

Description:

This project is to design and build a contactless power supply that can directly drive or charge a movable display, such as variable message signs rated up to 200W. Both IPT (Inductive Power Transfer) and CPT (Capacitive Power Transfer) solutions will be investigated and compared first, then a practical contactless power supply will be fully designed and built.

The project involves literature search, system level proposal, circuit design, simulation, implementation, and testing.

Type:

Undergraduate

Outcome:

A contactless power supply that can be used to drive a wireless display rated up to 200W. The solution can be used to power displays in harsh environments where displays must be made water and dust proof.

Prerequisites

At least one prospective student of the project group must be enrolled in the Power Electronics course (ELECTENG 734).
