Project #104: Linking Game Engines with Music Software

Back

Description:

Music production, especially for EDM, has had two major production interfaces - the original hardware interface, with racks of instruments and effects that interoperate, and then a migration of these racks into a software realm. Our research is to attempt to create an evolution to the software racks into virtual reality. The research will focus on the development of an intuitive interface, and on providing atypical feedback, thereby removing the dependence on physical feedback.

The research for this project is focused around creating an intuitive user experience / interface. The hope is to incorporate audio and visual feedback to the point that physical feedback is not needed to be able to control Ableton. This will require looking into different input devices, interfacing them with Ableton, then working towards making them more intuitive as they are hooked up to audio visual feedback.

Type:

Undergraduate

Outcome:

VR -> Ableton Link
This will mean being able to trigger / control Ableton controls using VR and
Myo/LeapMotion/Kinect inputs.
