Project #117: Development of 5kW secondary regulators for wireless EV charging

Back

Description:

This project will focus on the design and implementation of the secondary pad electronics to regulate power for charging an EV battery, compliant with operation at 85 kHz. The system is designed to handle a maximum input power rating of WPT1 (5kW) but initially will be tested at 1kW for safety purposes at 350V DC output. The battery is assumed to have similar charging characteristics to a Li-ion battery.

Both series and parallel tuned topologies will be developed using FPGA’s to control the switching regulation based on previous work taken at lower power.

The Parallel tuned system will be developed to suit a single or multi-coil secondary pad (circular DD or a bipolar) whereas the series tuned secondary is only targeting
