Project #25: Aerodynamics and acoustics of contra-rotating UAV propellers

Back

Description:

In this project you will investigate the aerodynamics and acoustics of a co-axial contra-rotating UAV propeller. The project will be experimental and will involve designing and building an experimental rig for measuring propeller thrust, rotational speed and for changing propeller blade pitch. The rig will be mounted in the anechoic chamber in the acoustics laboratory and you will use a microphone array which is already available. Assistance with the rig design and experiments will also be available from a PhD student who is working on UAV propeller noise. You will investigate the effect of propeller diameter, speed and pitch on the radiated noise field. You will also use hot-wire anemometry to measure the flow-field around the propellers.
