Project #35: Smart Helmet

Back

Description:

This project aims to fabricate a helmet that integrates wind energy harvesting component and sensing electronics to improve the experience of cyclists.
* The wind energy harvesting component will be designed based on a small turbine or galloping mechanism (wind flow induced vibration which is further converted to electricity).
* A power management circuit based on low-power microcontroller will be designed.
* Flashing LED light at the back of the helmet will be powered by the harvested wind energy for safer cycling.
* Sensing electronics will also be powered by the harvested wind energy to provide real-time information to the cyclist. The helmet could also communicate with cell phone through low-power Bluetooth.
