Project #34: Wireless channel measurements during construction of the new UoA Engineering building

Back

Description:

The optimal deployment of wireless services (e.g., WiFi and indoor-cellular systems) in buildings requires accurate models to predict the signal strength. Empirical models based on experimental data are widely used.  However, the measurements for these models are often taken in occupied buildings, where it is difficult to separate the impacts of “hard” partitions, “soft” internal walls, furniture, and other clutter.  The construction of the new faculty of engineering building at the city campus provides a unique opportunity to experimentally determine the impact of each of these components.
