Project #45: Control and Coordination of AC-DC Power System with Hybrid Energy Storage System

Back

Description:

This proposal aims to investigate and explore the integration, coordination and control of renewable energy sources in most efficient, supporting and optimal modes. The research activities will focus on integration and energy management aspects of a micro grid in isolated as well as grid interactive mode. The emphasis will be given on the proposition of efficient power converter topologies, their interface with renewable energy sources as well as storage, addressing operations in interactive as well as islanding modes. On the storage side, the use of both battery and supercapacitors will be investigated and explored to meet steady state and transient load conditions. The suitable energy management algorithms will be explored and proposed to control flow of active and reactive powers, unbalance and harmonic components of power, while coordination and optimal utilization of available energy sources will be considered.
