Project #46: Islanding Detection in Microgrid

Back

Description:

Microgrid has a significant research focus, to enable distributed renewable resources. The research activities will focus on integration and energy management aspects of a micro grid in islanded as well as grid interactive mode. In islanded mode, the microgrid works as a standalone small grid, while in grid connected mode, one or more microgrids are connected together and/or with the main grid. Energy management schemes together with energy storage devices are applicable for both the modes. However, under real-time operation there could be seamless operation between the islanded and grid-connected mode. The energy management schemes would differ under both modes. Therefore, it is critical to detect islanding condition from the grid connected mode. This project will investigate about the different algorithms for fast and robust islanding detection. The algorithms will be verified at lab scale simulation platform.
