Smart power grids combine power infrastructure with embedded intelligence for the design of next generation power systems. There have been recent proposals to augment smart grid standards such as IEC 61850 with emerging automation standards such as IEC 61499. However, the systematic combination of these two standards is yet to be carefully studied. This project will develop an unique case study of an energy demand management system involving electric vehicle charging infrastructure. A machine learning based approach will be developed and compared with conventional approaches.
