In this study, rice husk (RH) of a certain species will be manufactured into composite particleboards with a variation of polymeric (could be thermosetting or thermoplastic, synthetic or biodegradable) binders (to be identified) for the potential of enhancing the mechanical properties of the resulting boards. It will be benchmarked again the existing commercially available wood-based particleboards. It is envisaged that upon successfully accomplishing the manufacturing and characterisation of such particulate composite boards, their potentials in manufacturing and building industries will be further ascertained.
Undergraduate
The expected outcome of this project is to understand the effects of different binders on the achieved mechanical performance of the RH based particleboards.
