Description:

This project will involve developing a working proof of concept for a software tool that uses data mining and natural language
processing to allow businesses and emerging startup companies to find their competitors and rank those competitors by similarity to their business or idea. The project will research various online data sources (i.e. Google, Twitter, etc.) that could be used in such an application and investigate how data can be obtained from each source. The project will also research which machine learning and natural language processing algorithms are best suited to this type of application. A subset of the identified data sources will be implemented as a proof of concept.
