Project #1: How Can Physiological Data Support the Self-Management of Stress?

Back

Description:

Over the past few years, there has been a general increase in people’s stress and anxiety levels. Events like the COVID-19 lockdowns have caused an increase in people with chronic stress, while the shortage of medical workers has compounded the impact due as there is insufficient support for people. Inner PEACE is a mobile app that has been developed to help people self-manage anxiety or stress. It has been developed to provide support for marginalized communities that might be unable to justify the cost of other therapies and solutions.

In this project, you will enhance the Inner PEACE application by connecting it to a smartwatch or similar device to collect physiological measures of stress (like heart rate), and adding additional functionality based on the smartwatch data. You will then compare the enhanced version of the application to evaluate whether the benefits justify the additional costs (e.g., the smartwatch.)

This project is new for 2024. It is a collaboration with the School of Design in CAI.
