Project #18: Metal additive manufacturing in a nitrogen atmosphere

Back

Description:

This project will involve being able to run metal additive manufacturing powders, normally run in an argon inert atmosphere, in a nitrogen inert atmosphere. It will also involve testing the metallurgical and mechanical properties of the parts printed in the nitrogen atmosphere and comparing them to those produced in an argon atmosphere.

This project will be supervised by Dr Simon Chan

Type:

Undergraduate

Outcome:

·     A complete set of printing parameters for printing in a nitrogen atmosphere.

·     A metallurgical and mechanical comparison of parts produced in a nitrogen vs an argon atmosphere.
