Project #39: Improved prediction of aerodynamic loading on buildings

Back

Description:

Building designers need accurate wind loading data for the design of the structure and cladding of the building. This is traditionally done in wind tunnel tests, but in recent years CFD has supplimented or replaced experimental method. However, the recommended methods for CFD consistantly overpredict the stagnation pressures by ~50%. In this study students will undertake wind tunnel tests to get accurate experimental data to validate different CFD models, in order to determine which inlet model ensures accurate prediction of the loading.
