Project #44: Ground-board mounted microphone assessment

Back

Description:

Several international standards recommend the use of ground-board mounted microphones for making outdoor noise measurements. However, recent work has shown that this method is affected by the impedance of the ground, and the angle of incidence and frequency of the sound. It has also been shown that different ground board geometries can mitigate this effect. In this project you will assess different ground board geometries experimentally. This will involve designing and manufacturing the ground boards, developing an experimental rig to easily and accurately vary speaker angle during testing and then conduct testing within the anechoic chamber and outdoors to verify the designs. You will also need to characterise the ground surface using a standard method.
