Project #51: *[CDP-CEE] How do experiences during internship programmes shape our engineers?

Back

Description:

The Faculty of Engineering encourages students to take up a combination of sub-professional and general hours as part of their practical work experience. The 800 hour requirement is intended to help students develop a deeper understanding of the scope of industry and the nature of the engineering work environment.

This project will examine the internship experiences of the current undergraduate students in year 3 and year 4, across demographics such as gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation, to investigate the impact of industry culture on their career goals, self-perception, and understanding of University course content.

This project will involve the design, collection and analysis of qualitative data through surveys and interviews, as well as ethics approval from the University of Auckland Human Participants Ethics Committee.

This is a cross-departmental project with Civil & Environmental Engineering (supervisor: Dr Charlotte Toma).
