Project #49: Digitalization of 'The Gift Box' Tool

Back

Description:

This project aims to address the unmet mental health needs of New Zealanders, worsened by the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020. A long-standing nominal recovery approach, despite its strong principles, has limited access to operationalized tools informed by evidence-based practice and lived experience of recovery. Sustaining the use of these tools has proven difficult. There is an urgent need for effective, accessible tools to improve mental health and well-being, especially for different ethnic groups. 'The Gift Box,' a tool available only in physical form in limited numbers, addresses this need (https://talkthatheals.org/the-gift-box.php). With a profound theoretical foundation, this toolbox could greatly benefit from modern IT solutions. Digitalization would make it widely and affordably accessible to all patients and health professionals. The recent advancement of AI technologies, such as the Large Language Model (LLM) and prompt-engineering techniques, allows for the extension of this digitalized solution to include an AI-based mental health and well-being expert system for collaborative assessment and recovery. This project's impact and significance will extend beyond the immediate beneficiaries to the entire population of New Zealand, making a meaningful difference in the country's mental health landscape.
